About Benning Law
Nice to meet you. I'm glad you're here.
A solo consumer protection attorney helping everyday people fix credit report errors, stop debt collector harassment, and recover from identity theft — one real conversation at a time.
My story
I didn't become a lawyer to sit in a glass tower. I became one because I kept meeting people who'd been pushed around by systems far bigger than them — credit bureaus that wouldn't return a letter, debt collectors who wouldn't take no for an answer — and who assumed a lawyer was out of reach.
After years of watching big firms chase the biggest cases, I decided to build something different: a small practice where the cases that matter to one person are worth taking. Where the phone is answered by the person whose name is on the door.
That's Benning Law. I focus on consumer protection — the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act — because those laws were written for exactly this moment: when a big company's mistake or misconduct lands on your doorstep and refuses to leave.
Why I do this work
I've sat across the table from people who were embarrassed to ask for help — people who assumed their credit problems were somehow their fault, or that no lawyer would bother with a case like theirs.
Here's what I want you to know: credit report errors, debt collector harassment, and identity theft happen to careful, responsible people every single day. The problem isn't you. The system is complicated on purpose — and you don't have to navigate it alone.
My approach
How I work
I practice consumer protection law because I believe the person with the smaller bank account shouldn't automatically lose. The FCRA and the FDCPA exist to level the field — my job is to use them well.
My approach is simple: listen first, explain everything in plain English, and never make you feel silly for asking a question. You will always know what's happening with your case and what happens next.
I'm selective about the cases I take so I can be genuinely present for the ones I do. When you hire me, you get me — not a case manager, not a call center, not a handoff.
What you can count on
You talk to me
Every call, every email, every update comes directly from your lawyer — not an assistant, not a form letter.
Plain English, always
No legal jargon without a translation. You should never finish a conversation with me feeling confused.
Honest answers
If I don't think you have a case, I'll tell you — and point you toward someone who can help.
No pressure, ever
Your first conversation is free. You'll never be rushed or pushed into a decision.
A little more about me
Outside of work, you'll usually find me with a good book, a long walk, or a strong cup of coffee. I live here in North Dakota, and I believe the people in my community deserve the same quality of legal help anyone in a big city can get.
Let's talk about your situation
Tell me what happened. We'll figure out your next step together — and asking costs you nothing.
